Dealing with Discouragement

Dealing with Discouragement!

So many people have great ideas and dreams but very few achieve them for various reasons.  One of the main things that gets in the way of achieving dreams are feelings, feelings like fear and discouragement.  I know these two emotions very VERY well.  What most people don’t realize is that these feelings don’t travel alone.  In many cases, they are invited by thoughts are very good at staying hidden.  The best way to change how you feel is to change what you’re thinking .  So here’s my advice…

  1. Label your feeling(s) –      Yes, yes, yes, this step is actually quite important!
  2. Listen for the thoughts attached to the feeling(s) – Write em down if you have to!
  3. Challenge them – Acknowledge what’s true and what’s absolutely UNTRUE!

This morning I had the opportunity to take my own advice.  I was aware that I was not feeling excited or content, definitely not a good way to start the day.  So, sitting at my kitchen table I asked myself, “What’s up?  What exactly am I feeling?… Discouraged.”  I hate feeling discouraged!!!!  Don’t you?  I went on to take a closer look at the thoughts attached to this familiar feeling. What did I find??? [Here’s where I decide how vulnerable I want to be…]

“You’re ideas aren’t good enough… they aren’t new… things should be happening faster!  You’ll never be successful.”

Can you believe it? I was being ambushed and assaulted in my own home and I didn’t even realize it.  Not just one thought but several thoughts were behind the presence of discouragement.

After recognizing these simple yet powerful thoughts, I was able to challenge them and change my mood (and my level of productivity).  So here are the new and true thoughts that helped me deal with discouragement today.

“The truth is my ideas have been helpful to many people for many years so they are “good enough”.  I know a lot of the wisdom I’ve received and share with many people has been around for ages in many different places and forms, I simply have the opportunity to share it with people in my time and my way.

Finally, very few things happen as quickly as I would like them too, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t happen.  In fact, there are so many things to learn and enjoy along the way.  I am learning and growing right now!  Which means… I am already am successful!”

The truth is… I CAN deal with discouragement and so can you!  Have a great day!

Hello and thank you for taking the time to comment. Unfortunately, I am having trouble understanding your comment. I believe you are saying that this topic is a good one and that you’d recommend writing more on similar topics but including how to be happy in the long term. Is that correct?

Woah! I’m really enjoying the theme of this blog. It’s simple yet effective. A lot of time it’s hard to get the “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appearance. I must say you’ve done an excellent job with this. Also, the blog loads super fast for me on Safari. Excellent Blog!
